With a fund of USD300 thousand from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Arts Museum Walters put the entire collection of the Qur'an and other Islamic writings in the online format. This format provides high-resolution display and the Qur'an can be accessed for free by anyone internet connection. "What they do is an example of documentation that can be replicated by other reading collection that so many in number," said Chief Massumeh Farhad Museum, as quoted from the Baltimore Sun, Wednesday (11/11/2009). Meanwhile, the head of the British Museum Fahmida Suleman Walter mentioned that the museum promotes collaboration between Walter and museums or other organizations.
"As can be accessed from anywhere and by anyone, Walter allows us to access their collections, find out what they have and deal directly with them," said Fahmida. While Amy Landau trained experts of Islamic studies from Oxford and Walters, assistant curator saw an other benefits in the Qur'an digitization project. "The point to remember is, the center of Islamic art from popular curiosity and provoke people to know and learn. This is only the beginning stage, many are also now beginning to learn the language of the Koran in Arabic," said Landau. According to him, along with the increasing number of documented material, the more there are many activities that can be done in this field. And digitization projects undertaken Walters is the most potential support it.
